Breaking News: United States Calls on Turkey to Halt Sanctioned Exports to Russia
New York (RichTVX.com) — The United States is urging Turkey to cease its exports of sanctioned goods to Russia, which include chemicals and microchips that could potentially be used in the conflict against Ukraine. A senior U.S. Treasury official, Brian Nelson, met with Turkish officials and businesses in Ankara and Istanbul to encourage closer trade relations with the U.S. and compliance with sanctions. Washington is concerned about Turkish exports to Russia, which are estimated to be worth tens of millions of dollars. Turkey, a NATO member, acknowledges that it adheres to anti-Russian sanctions, but asks the U.S. to provide evidence for its allegations. According to Reuters, based on Russian customs reports, during the first seven months of the conflict in Ukraine, Russia received electronic components and chips of Western origin worth over $2.6 billion, despite the sanctions. These chips were later found on some Russian weapons systems. The West views Turkey and Hong Kong as the primary channels for exporting goods to Russia that bypass the sanctions.
