Vladimir Kara-Murza’s Health Deteriorates Rapidly
We write this exposé with a heavy heart. Vladimir Kara-Murza, a politician and writer who has been labelled a “foreign agent” in Russia, is facing serious health problems while in pre-trial detention. He has been charged with three criminal cases, including “military fakes” and treason. According to his defense team, Kara-Murza’s health has deteriorated rapidly and he has been put on drips. He is suffering from polyneuropathy in his lower limbs, which worsened after he spent four days in a punishment cell in February. Kara-Murza’s lawyers have reported that the medical staff at the Moscow detention center have decided that he cannot be taken to court due to his poor health. They have also provided a certificate from the medical unit stating that he cannot participate in any judicial or investigative actions until the end of his treatment, the duration of which is currently unknown. This is a rare case in which a prisoner has been prevented from appearing in court at the initiative of the medical unit of the detention center, indicating that Kara-Murza’s health is in a serious condition.
Kara-Murza’s health problems are the result of two poisonings, his detention, and his time in a punishment cell. He was first poisoned in May 2015 by the Russian FSB and has been experiencing numbness in his limbs since being placed in the punishment cell. On March 3, the United States imposed sanctions against three judges, an investigator, and Russia’s deputy justice minister under the “Magnitsky Act,” linking them to the criminal prosecution of Kara-Murza.On March 6, Kara-Murza’s arrest was extended for another six months. He was first detained in April 2022 after giving a speech in the United States in which he opposed the war between Russia and Ukraine. His defense team is concerned about his deteriorating health and is calling for him to receive proper medical care. It appears that the failure to provide Vladimir Kara-Murza with necessary medical treatment is intentional, but the question remains: who could have a vested interest in his death? It’s not hard to see the same pattern at work in Vladimir Kara-Murza’s case as in the assassinations of Anna Politkovskaya and Boris Nemtsov, with the same FSB group in control of the country and most likely responsible for all three.
