On March 13th, a significant milestone was achieved as the Republican Parties of Kosovo and Serbia signed an agreement to recognize each other as independent and sovereign nations and cooperate in normalizing relations between their respective countries. The agreement also includes joint entry into the EU and NATO. The parties gave special emphasis to the establishment of an Association of municipalities with a Serbian majority in Kosovo and the unearthing of mass graves of Albanians in Serbia. Prof. Faton Kurti, the chairman of the Republicans of Kosovo, described the agreement as historic and stated that the parties had taken concrete steps to clarify Serbian crimes against the Albanian population since 2015. However, he expressed concern about the formation of “Zajednica” as a threat to Kosovo’s sovereignty. Nikola Sandulović, the president of the Republicans of Serbia, promised to work on bringing criminals to justice if he wins power in Serbia. Mehmet Prishtina, the vice-president of the Republicans of Kosovo, stated that one of the agreement’s conditions is the discovery of mass graves, and the parties have been working to uncover specific cases since 2015.
