The teaser trailer for A24 and Ari Aster’s Midsommar will have you doubting your next trip. Following the theme of his 2018 hit Hereditary, the upcoming horror flick takes audiences to rural Sweden where a couple’s supposed festival trip turns into a pagan cult-led competition.
It’s revealed that the festival, which only occurs every 90 years, transpires over a course of nine days. Local patrons are seen dressed in white with strong floral accents that highlight the ancient and seemingly joyous celebration of the summer solstice. But murals depicting the evil nature of festivities reveal what’s about to really go down. The sound of a loud exhale is also repeated throughout the trailer, allowing fans to speculate that it could be the Midsommar equivalent of Hereditary’s creepy tongue click.
Midsommar hits theaters this Summer 2019, and boasts an all-star cast of Outlaw King’s Florence Pugh, Transformers’ Jack Reynor, William Jackson Harper of The Good Place and Black Mirror: Bandersnatch’s Will Poulter.
