Kanye West to buy right-wing platform Parler

NEW YORK (RichTVX.com) — The rapper formerly known as Kanye West is offering to buy right-wing friendly social network Parler. Ye “will never have to fear being removed from social media again”, Parler boss George Farmer posts.

Ye

Ye[a] (/j/ YAY; born Kanye Omari West[b] /ˈkɑːnj/ KAHN-yay; born June 8, 1977) is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, record producer, and fashion designer.[1][2][3][4]

Born in Atlanta and raised in the predominantly white, middle-class suburb of Oak Lawn, Illinois,[5][6] West initially gained recognition as a producer for Roc-A-Fella Records in the early 2000s, producing singles for several artists and developing the “chipmunk soul” sampling style. Intent on pursuing a solo career as a rapper, he released his debut studio album, The College Dropout (2004), to critical and commercial success. He founded the record label GOOD Music later that year.

West explored diverse musical elements like orchestras, synthesizers, and autotune on the albums Late Registration (2005), Graduation (2007), and 808s & Heartbreak (2008). Drawing inspiration from maximalism and minimalism respectively, his fifth and sixth albums My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy (2010) and Yeezus (2013) also received critical and commercial success. West further diversified his musical styles on The Life of Pablo (2016) and Ye (2018) and explored Christian and gospel music on Jesus Is King (2019). After multiple delays, his highly anticipated tenth album Donda (2021) was released to continued commercial success, but to mixed critical reception. He released its sequel Donda 2 (2022) a few months later, exclusively through his tie-in audio speaker service. West’s discography also includes the full-length collaborative albums Watch the Throne (2011) with Jay-Z and Kids See Ghosts (2018) with Kid Cudi.

West’s outspoken views and life outside of music have received significant media coverage. He has been a frequent source of controversy for his conduct on social media[7] and at awards shows and public settings, as well as his comments on the music and fashion industries, U.S. politics, race, and slavery. His Christian faith, high-profile marriage to Kim Kardashian, and mental health have also been sources of media attention.[8][9] As a fashion designer, he has collaborated with Nike, Louis Vuitton, The Gap, and A.P.C. on clothing and footwear and leads the Yeezy collaboration with Adidas. He is also the founder and head of the creative content company Donda. In 2020, he launched an unsuccessful independent presidential campaign that primarily advocated for a consistent life ethic.[10][11][12]

Parler

Parler (/ˈpɑːrlər/) is an American alt-tech social networking service associated with conservatives.[9][10][11][12][13][14] Journalists have described Parler as an alt-tech alternative to Twitter, and users include those banned from mainstream social networks or who oppose their moderation policies.[15][16][17][18] Launched in August 2018, Parler markets itself as a free speech-focused and unbiased alternative to mainstream social networks such as Twitter and Facebook. Journalists have criticized this as being a cover for its far-right userbase.[19][16][20] Journalists and users have also criticized the service for content policies that are more restrictive than the company portrays and sometimes more restrictive than those of its competitors.[21][22][23][24]

Parler’s userbase grew exponentially during 2020 with minimal content moderation.[25][26] After reports that Parler was used to coordinate the 2021 storming of the U.S. Capitol, several companies denied it their services.[27] Apple and Google removed Parler’s mobile app from their app stores, and Parler went offline on January 10, 2021, when Amazon Web Services canceled its hosting services.[28][29][30] Before it went offline in January 2021, according to Parler, the service had about 15 million users.[31] Parler called the removals “a coordinated attack by the tech giants to kill competition in the marketplace”.[25] Parler resumed service on February 15, 2021, after moving domain registration to Epik.[32] A version of the app with added content filters was released on the Apple App Store on May 17.[7][8][33] Parler returned to Google Play on September 2, 2022.[34]

Founder and CEO John Matze was Parler’s chief executive officer until January 29, 2021, at which point he said he had been fired by the company’s board, which he asserted was controlled by co-founder and investor Rebekah Mercer.[35] Former Tea Party activist Mark Meckler served as interim CEO from February to May 2021, when the Brexit Party donor and former candidate George Farmer was named CEO.[36][37] In September 2022, Parler announced they would be restructuring under a new parent company, Parlement Technologies Inc., to focus on powering an “uncancellable economy”.[38] In October 2022, Parler’s parent company agreed in principle to a purchase of Parler by American rapper Kanye West.[39]
